Olly Scharpe, Student Midwife
Olly is a fat, neurodivergent, queer student midwife through the Midwives College of Utah, living in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Their path to midwifery was inspired by their desire to serve their community in a world that does not often prioritize care and support, especially for queer and trans people. Midwifery is an avenue for them to show up with love and practical skills. In a world filled with uncertainty, Olly strongly values the expertise to support pregnancy and birth outside of the hospital with minimal intervention. They believe sharing laughter and joy creates pathways for connection and trust; this is why humor is at the heart of their care. Olly is committed to providing collaborative, anti-racist, trauma-informed, fat-positive, and gender-affirming care.
Olly previously earned a Bachelor of Science in Sociology and Social Justice from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities in 2019. Since graduating, they have worked as a sexual violence advocate and in a sexual and reproductive health clinic in Minneapolis. Outside of work, Olly enjoys spending time in their cozy home with their girlfriend, dog, and three cats. There, they have an ever-growing collection of physical media, like DVDs, VHS tapes, CDs, and vinyl. Some of their art and media reviews can be found in the queer, print-only publication Better Homes and Dykes.
