Kayla at Twin Cities Midwifery exceeded every expectation. As a first-time mom, I always felt fully supported, never judged for choices I made, and given clear options with research behind them. Care was always very individualized, as she remembered our personal details, not just the clinical ones. Our birth was challenging with a sunny-side-up baby, and Kayla’s calm, skilled support made all the difference and I was still able to achieve all my birth goals. It was a fantastic experience!

Postpartum care was just as incredible- helping us establish breastfeeding and checking in often. We were genuinely sad when our 6-week visit ended!!

The admin staff is also wonderful with easy communication, seamless billing, and quick responses. We will absolutely use TCM again for future pregnancies and have already recommended Kayla to others!!

Kayla was amazing to work with! Very welcoming, knowledgeable, and humble. She made me feel instantly comfortable around her and gained my trust throughout pregnancy. As I shared different fears or struggles, she was very validating. She also gave me a ton of great resources as different issues came up in pregnancy. She was emotionally there for me during the extremely challenging times of having my baby breech and then having an ECV, during my challenging birth and transfer to the hospital, and afterwards. She never left us when we needed her and truly went above and beyond. I also appreciated Kate; she was at my birth, and both she and Kayla were very calm and competent as I had complications arose.

They are such a cohesive team (including their office manager, Emily), and any matter you bring up will be addressed quickly and efficiently. I had my third baby at home, assisted by Kayla. She was everything and more that I could ask for in a midwife. I loved that her care during my pregnancy was how I wanted it to be. She made sure I knew all my options and educated me on all the options, and let me make my own decisions during the process. That was huge for me. I preferred doing the least amount of intervention, and she honored that. I started seeing Kayla about halfway through my pregnancy. I started out at my OB with a plan to go to a birth center. My friend found Kayla and had nothing but amazing things to say, so I met with her as well and knew she was the perfect person to help deliver my final baby, and she made me feel comfortable in the decision to do it at home.

I ended up going almost two weeks past my due date. I was dealing with prodromal labor on and off after about 39.5 weeks. It was very difficult both physically and emotionally, but Kayla helped keep me grounded and assured me I would not be pregnant forever (even though it sure felt like it). She never pressured me to go into the hospital for an induction, just made sure I knew my options to be able to make the best decision for myself and my baby. She made it very clear she would support me no matter what I decided. I decided to wait it out and have our final baby at home as we had planned. I was so glad I did. Kayla was the calming presence I needed, and I love that she was there to support while also making it feel like it was just my husband and me in the room. Her care for my baby and me after was perfect. She gave us our space to welcome and get to know our new baby while still doing everything she needed to do to be sure we were doing well. She made me a snack, started the laundry from the beginning, and made sure we had everything we needed before leaving.

Anyone debating a home birth, my answer is DO IT! You will not regret it. I have experienced two hospital births, and they cannot compare. The intimacy, the convenience, and the phenomenal support of Kayla will give you the most amazing experience. I loved not being stuck in a hospital for a day or two after the birth. We were home and in our happy place right away with our newest addition.

Kayla is the absolute best. I cannot say enough great things about her.

I successfully had a beautiful homebirth with TCM. My experience with Kate, and all who work with her, has been absolutely amazing. The level of care my family and I received is incomparable to anything I’ve ever received with past healthcare encounters. Every appointment was an hour plus of close attention to my well-being as a whole. She paid close attention to my labs. If anything was off, we made a plan of care together. She provided me with all my options. I felt fully in control with every decision that was made. Our conversations were always informative and supporting. I felt I gained a friend through our months together. Her care is what I hope for with every expectant parent. My birth experience (after two hospital births with epidurals) was by far my favorite and best birth experience. I would highly recommend TCM to anyone looking for a personalized, caring experience as they welcome a baby into their family.

Where do I begin? I am so grateful to have found the Twin Cities Midwifery team. Sarah and Kayla supported me throughout my entire pregnancy, giving me choice and autonomy along the way. I was given options at each fork in the road, truly making this experience my own. I felt valued, listened to, respected. After an epidural hospital birth with our first, we wanted to find a different experience. We were lucky to find Sarah at TCM. She always asked great questions and made us feel valued in the special time that pregnancy is. We couldn’t believe we were planning a home birth, especially unmedicated since I had doubt that I was strong enough. Sarah believed and tried to prepare us as best she could.

Labor started in the middle of a snowstorm so Sarah and Kayla made their way to our house. Three hours later our sweet boy was in our arms. We felt support and care leading up to, during, and after. We are thankful that we had an all star birth team, including Sarah and Kayla.

All of these were questions I began asking myself halfway through my pregnancy when I was fed up with the way our medical system deals with pregnancy and birth. Even though I was seeing a group of CNMs at a pretty open-minded clinic, I just kept feeling like I was being forced into procedures that seemed unnecessary without having any meaningful conversations with my providers. I stumbled upon TCM when looking for a birth center and after reading their care philosophy and learning about the services they provide, I felt like something opened up in my heart and a huge weight was lifted from my shoulders. TCM is everything they advertise and more. I truly felt that I had a friend/family member with me through my pregnancy, not just a caregiver. I have never felt so much in control of my own health while also feeling so incredibly supported and cared for. TCM made me feel both empowered and safe to be completely vulnerable. And it’s not just the midwives who provide this level of care. Emily, their office manager, is incredibly kind, prompt and knowledgeable! I credit part of our family’s decision to join TCM to her communication with me in the beginning! In short, to give birth in the comfort of your own home is a blessing that cannot be described with words alone. I was fortunate enough to have both Kate and Sarah at my birth and it was the most incredible experience of my life. My family and I will cherish this pregnancy and birth experience forever. Every woman is in charge of what kind of care they want during their pregnancy and birth, but having had both a hospital and home birth now, I can tell you I would choose the home birth experience with TCM over any other option in a heartbeat. Thank you Kate and Sarah! You gave me the greatest gift a mother could ask for!

So many valuable ideas gleaned from the group. I am extra thankful for the common thread of “I trust that growth unfolds in it’s own time”. I want to be able to implement every good idea and every great intention every day every week all the time (!!!) and just extra thankful for the continued reminder to trust the process of growth.

It’s helped me acknowledge my shortcomings as potential growth opportunities, not unchanging character flaws. It’s helped me see my children as human beings with all the emotions but none of the resources to manage them. Seeing my kids begin to take deep breaths in the middle of the store, begin to show gratitude and look for the “glimmers” in the day, and see themselves in a positive light has been invaluable.

I wasn’t sure what to expect going in- I thought “I’ve tried apps, books, therapy, and still this is about as good as I can get.” and it was unsatisfying for me! I hoped the group wouldn’t be a waste of time, but went for it anyway and it has been made more of a difference than anything else I have ever tried, many times over. Kate and Emily are so kind and intelligent, and are the perfect people to lead this group. I’ve never felt judged, inadequate, or “less than” for being arguably farther behind than my peers. I was shocked at the language and behaviors of my peers- I’d never been around such emotionally intelligent people who genuinely like their families and seek depth with their children in a way the families up here are. Despite not always having the right words, the right validation or responses, no one has ever made me feel behind, it’s just me. I have such a love for everyone in this group that I was not expecting to feel going into this!

I feel more present and more mindful/intentional about my parenting choices and my day to day interactions.
