Maternity Shopping

My sister (pregnant with baby #2) and I went shopping a couple of weekends ago for some new clothes for her now that she is growing out of clothes, again. We had a fabulous time, and thought it would be fun to share some great maternity clothes shops around the cities.

Our number one rated shop, for a combination of best quality for best deals, is Bellies to Babies in Richfield (on Penn just south of 62) and Osseo.  This gently used maternity store has maternity clothing sizes from XS to 3XL and preemie to 2T clothing. They also have a nursing section with nursing tops, dresses and pajamas. They even offer formal dresses for rent! We were impressed with their variety of good quality clothes, with the best deals anywhere! They recently expanded, doubling the size of their store. They also carry some baby clothes, shoes, and hats. There are large dressing rooms and a nursing corner with a curtain that can be pulled for privacy. Once you’re done with your maternity clothing, you can bring it in to sell it on the spot (no waiting for it to be sold like a typical consignment shop)! Bellies to Babies is absolutely the most affordable option for maternity fashion.

Next, we went to Old Navy and checked out their maternity section. My sister likes getting clothes there since they tend to be reasonable priced and versatile. I got a few staple outfits there for her as part of her birthday present. It was fun to have her try them on and pick out her favorites before I warped them up for her party!

That’s all that we had time for that Saturday afternoon, but here are a few others that you might want to check out…

I feel like every pregnant woman I’ve talked with about this topic has been to Motherhood Maternity. They have good staple pieces, and they have many locations across the Twin Cities. Most of them are located in a mall setting, so while you are there you can also check out the maternity sections of the major department stores. They are also located inside some Babies-R-Us, so you can browse while you are registering for your car seat.

Pea in the Pod is a store that I haven’t yet been to myself, but have heard good things about. They are located in the Mall of American and at the Galleria in Edina. Macy’s maternity also carries some of their clothing. They seem to have a good selection of designer clothes for everyday wear, work, and special occasions. Definitely upscale (they have an “as seen on celebs” section of their website), but worth checking out at some point in pregnancy.

Target is another great option. Perfect for those days when you’re getting tired of wearing the same three outfits over and over, and you want something less expensive to change things up. They have a nice maternity section, and they even have swim suits as well! Don’t forget to pick up a nursing tank top while you’re there, too.

Another great place to look are thrift stores. While not all have maternity sections, we’ve heard good things about Clothes Mentor in Burnsville from a TCM mom. They seem to have a nice maternity section to browse.

Stitch Fix, an online personal stylist, now offers maternity clothes as well. It’s a great option if you need some staples for your maternity wardrobe, but don’t want to venture to the nearest mall. Stitch Fix offers free and easy returns, so there’s no pressure if you end up not liking one of the items you buy.

A few online options are JCrew, which now offers its most popular pants and shorts in a maternity style, Ann Taylor LoftWal-Mart, Gap, ASOS, and H&M.

We haven’t gotten a chance to try it out yet, but a past TCM mom recommends thredUP. It is an online consignment store with plenty to choose from in their maternity section. If you try it out, let us know what you think in the comments below.

If you enjoy watching Zulily for deals, did you know they also sell maternity clothes? We haven’t tried it yet, but we’ve heard good things about it.

I’m sure many of you have found even more spots, and I’d love to hear about them. Leave reviews of the above and new recommendations below! Happy shopping!

H&M at Ridgedale mall also has some wonderful maternity stuff that tends to be fairly trendy but similar to Old Navy in terms of pricing. They also have great staples.
