Getting to know Christina Gregory!

We are grateful to have the opportunity to interview Christina Gregory to learn more about Reiki and Energy Therapy and its benefits during the childbearing years.  To learn more about Christina and her practice read below and also check out her website!

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what brought you to Reiki/Energy therapy?

I am semi-retired and have three grown children and 4 grandchildren.  Was introduced to the Lamaze method of childbirth in the late ‘60s and trained as a Le Leche Leader. Later on, I coached several women along the way in breathing for childbirth (in small towns where there was little support) and support for nursing.

Healing has always been in my mind. At the age of 4, I thought I could ‘heal’ my father’s mole by applying my sister’s diaper cream!

In high school, I aspired to be a doctor but support for women in that role in the ‘60s was pretty slim.  So I went into education and at the business school where I was Dean of Faculty we had a massage program and some teachers, there were Reiki practitioners.  I went to them for some treatments and knew the next step was to become certified.  That led to other explorations in energy such as QiGong, Tai Chi, and indigenous energy practices. I also have training in Healing Touch.   After my third child, I did consider midwifery but went the education route instead.

Could you share more about your practice and the services you provide?

For 6 years I did volunteer work at Fairview Hospital and currently, for the past 14 years I have volunteered for Fairview Hospice.

In my part-time practice at Therapy and Healing Arts in South Minneapolis clients come for Reiki treatment.   I also teach all 4 levels of Reiki and encourage clients to go down this path with at least Level I so they can also do it for themselves and their family.  That was the original intention of Reiki:  do it on yourself every day.  And there is also the intention of having a ‘healer’ in every family.

Who would benefit from Reiki?

Everyone can benefit from Reiki as it is Universal Energy!  You already have it!  But going through life we often need some help keeping our balance.  Reiki is essentially a vibration that reminds the body to heal.  Our bodies have healing wisdom and are always on a mission to heal.  The modulating vibration in the practitioner’s hands helps bring balance to whatever needs some extra help.  It unsticks things emotionally and physically.  It relieves pain, calms nausea, creates deep relaxation, supports sleep, etc.   We say, “it goes where it needs to go and does what it needs to do”.  Your body does the work.  Nothing is put into you.  Nothing is channeled.  It is pure vibration your body needs to heal and balance.  Also, keep in mind that the practitioner can hover over an area where touching is not advisable. Reiki compliments all other modalities such as Western and Eastern medicine, chiropractic, Ayurveda, homeopathy, etc.

What is your philosophy when it comes to serving families in their childbearing years?

Empowering!  Give people the tools for coping and healing themselves and their families.  That can be through a practitioner and/or taking a class to learn this healing tool.  Reiki balances the mind, body, and spirit which can all use help during the childbearing years!

What are the benefits of reiki during pregnancy and postpartum?

I wish I had had Reiki during my childbearing years!  Although there were no problems, pregnancy itself is hard on the body and spirit

During pregnancy, there are issues of discomfort, emotional swings, nausea, constipation, and all kinds of aches as your body adjusts to the weight and position of the baby.  Postpartum: it calms and balances mood, anxiety, and depression, can assist with plugged ducts and relaxation of the body so that ‘let down’ occurs more smoothly.  It calms baby and some studies show better sleep and a more relaxed mood!  Reiki cannot do harm.

Is Reiki used for newborn and children?

Reiki is used for everyone.  It is very calming so perfect for babies and children!  Studies have shown better sleep and mood for newborns and children.

Does Reiki offer benefits to those trying to conceive?

I have not seen research to this effect, but we have all heard the stories of a woman trying to conceive and deciding to adopt a child and before the ink is dry on the adoption papers she has conceived!  There can be an emotional component to conception as well as physical challenges.  One thing is for sure:  Reiki does no harm.  Adding it to the other methods being used for conception it will relieve the anxiety that can surround not being able to conceive.

Do you offer a sliding scale or insurance billing? Do you offer in-person, virtual and/or in-home services?

I can offer a sliding scale, but Reiki is not covered under insurance.  I offer in-person, virtual and in-home services.  Having done most of my hospice work in people’s homes I am very comfortable offering Reiki in those settings.

What is the best way for interested people/families to contact you?
