Kayla joined the TCM team in August of 2022. Her professional experience includes attending births as a doula in various birth settings, training as a student-midwife in both a homebirth practice and a birth center, and receiving her formal midwifery education at the Midwives College of Utah. In addition to being a Certified Professional Midwife at TCM, she is also a Birth Assistant at a busy birth center and leads the Childbirth Education series with the Queer Birth Project. Her experience in birth work began in 2018. She has had the privilege of supporting many families on their journeys of conception, pregnancy, labor/birth, and during the postpartum time. Kayla is passionate about providing informed, safe, and consensual care and is active in staying up-to-date on the newest evidenced-based practices. Kayla was previously a middle school educator and finds great joy in discussing with clients all of their options every step of the way, especially in relation to cultural and lifestyle practices. When not at the practice or at a birth, you can find Kayla canoeing around one of the many lakes or rivers in the Twin Cities area with her wife and their two pups. She also enjoys reading anything by Grady Hendrix or Samantha Irby with a cat in her lap (she has three!), and thrives on pastries from the various bakeries in the metro. She is honored to support TCM families!

She is completing her studies as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner and will soon provide full-spectrum care, including mental health, annual/gyn, prenatal, postpartum, and gender-affirming care.
Her passion for birth began with her mother, a labor and delivery nurse who embraced natural childbirth. After her own challenging first pregnancy, Krista pursued a career in obstetric nursing and later earned her MSN in midwifery. She has served diverse communities in Tennessee and Alaska and is dedicated to trauma-informed, gender-affirming care.

Olly is a fat, neurodivergent, queer student midwife through the Midwives College of Utah living in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Their path to midwifery was inspired by their desire to serve their community in a world that does not often prioritize care and support, especially for queer and trans people. Midwifery is an avenue for them to show up with love and practical skills. In a world filled with uncertainty, Olly strongly values the expertise to support pregnancy and birth outside of the hospital with minimal intervention. They believe sharing laughter and joy creates pathways for connection and trust; this is why humor is at the heart of their care. Olly is committed to providing collaborative, anti-racist, trauma-informed, fat-positive, and gender-affirming care.
Olly previously earned a Bachelor of Science in Sociology and Social Justice from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities in 2019. Since graduating, they have worked as a sexual violence advocate and in a sexual and reproductive health clinic in Minneapolis. Outside of work, Olly enjoys spending time in their cozy home with their girlfriend, dog, and three cats. There they have an ever-growing collection of physical media, like DVDs, VHS tapes, CDs, and vinyls. Some of their art and media reviews can be found in the queer, print-only publication Better Homes and Dykes.
Twin Cities Midwifery is unique. When you begin care with one of our midwives, you choose the care provider you will see for your full course of care – from prenatal to postpartum. In many other practices, you see different midwives and birth with whoever happens to be on call. We so strongly value continuity of care we have you meet all of the contracted midwives on our team so you can choose who will be on this journey with you, every step of the way.
We also value self-care for our midwives and sustainability for our practice. We always have a back-up midwife in place so if for any unforeseen reason your midwife is unavailable, you will still be in excellent hands. Every homebirth team includes a Licensed Midwife plus a second birth assistant. Both are trained and certified in neonatal resuscitation. Team members are determined based on client preference, due time, and location.
