Kate Saumweber Hogan, Certified Professional Midwife, licensed in Minnesota (LM# 1025) and Wisconsin (License #113-49), is the owner and founder of Twin Cities Midwifery (TCM), where she provides personalized, community-based midwifery care tailored to each family’s needs.

Kate’s midwifery career is built on years of experience attending births as a doula and midwifery student starting in 2004. She graduated from Bastyr University’s Department of Midwifery (formerly Seattle Midwifery School) in 2010 after completing extensive academic training and clinical experience, including a six-week international rotation at a birth site in Genova, Italy. Since founding TCM in 2010, Kate has focused on empowering families, supporting parents as the primary decision-makers for their birth experiences, and creating a calm, family-centered environment during labor and birth.

She is passionate about the natural process of pregnancy and birth, believing deeply in the intuitive wisdom of the body and the importance of informed choice. Kate values the continuity of care and the relationships built with clients throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. She prioritizes informed consent, helping clients navigate the many options and decisions they encounter along the way, ensuring they feel fully supported and empowered in their choices.

Throughout her career, Kate has held numerous leadership roles in the midwifery community, including serving on the Midwifery Advisory Council to the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice from 2012 to 2024 and as president of the Minnesota Chapter of the National Association of Certified Professional Midwives from 2016 to 2018. She is an active member of the Minnesota Council of Certified Professional Midwives (MCCPM) and contributes to the annual review of professional standards of practice for midwives in Minnesota. As part of the MCCPM outreach committee, Kate collaborates with hospital providers and EMS teams to improve interprofessional relationships, strengthening continuity of care and ensuring safe, seamless transfer experiences for birthing families. She also served as Director of Clinical Operations at a local birth center, where she worked collaboratively with staff to support client-centered care and team development. Currently, she plays a role in national birth center accreditation as a staff member with the Commission for the Accreditation of Birth Centers (CABC), supporting the advancement of quality standards in birth centers nationwide.

Kate has shared her expertise on topics related to midwifery care and collaborative transfers as a speaker at the Minnesota ACNM Optimal Outcomes Conference and the Minnesota EMS Medical Directors’ Conference in 2023. She is also an experienced preceptor, mentoring numerous midwifery students who are now practicing CPMs.

Kate earned her Bachelor of Arts in Music, graduating magna cum laude from Ithaca College with a concentration in vocal performance and minors in women’s studies and integrative health studies. Her passion for music, integrative health, and community-building continues to influence her holistic approach to midwifery.

She lives in South Minneapolis with her family and enjoys spending her free time outdoors, paddle boarding, sailing, running, skate skiing, and lounging in steam rooms and saunas. Kate’s favorite moments are those she shares with her three children, whether they’re on an outdoor adventure, enjoying puzzles, or simply relaxing together.
