18 Jun A note from Kelly…
Here at TCM, we ask all of our families to give us feedback on our care after their final postpartum checkup. We are always looking for ways to improve the care we provide and the experiences of our families. There is a simple form that they can fill out, but we also encourage families to write a more in depth review if they are willing. We received this wonderful email from one of our recent moms, Kelly, and she gave us permission to share it here!
I became interested in homebirth midway through my second pregnancy and, at 20 weeks, I began my search for a midwife. After several interviews with potential midwives in the twin cities, I chose Kate of Twin Cities Midwifery. I was impressed with her professionalism and amazed with her passion for midwifery, moms, and babies. She is incredibly knowledgeable and wise in all areas concerning pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum. Her concern for the well being of both mom and baby are paramount in her practice.
My husband was a little uneasy about the idea of homebirths at first. That is until our first visit with Kate. She used facts and statistics, as well as her own personal experience, to expel any myths we held concerning this topic. She made us both feel completely comfortable about having a homebirth and that our decision to have a homebirth was not only smart, but also very healthy for both mom and baby. And even though homebirths account for only 1% of births in America today, we believe it is such a normal and wise choice for expecting mothers of low-risk pregnancies that we share our experience with people all the time.
Kate is extremely personable. She came to me for all home visits; I never had to drive to my pregnancy check-up visits and find childcare for my other two children. She always came equipped with her medical tools and answered any and all questions I had. She has a wonderful resource library of DVD’s and books; in fact, one of the children’s books she loaned us about home births and midwives made such an impression on my then four year old that he still talks about it today!
When I started laboring, Kate came over right away (at the wee hour of 5 am) and supported me through the entire thing. She was concerned foremost with my desires, whether I wanted to slow down or speed the labor up, and when I decided I’d had enough of labor and wanted to get that baby out, she gave me numerous natural, non invasive things to try to speed up the process. After trying one of her ideas out, my baby was born in 20 minutes!
I loved every minute of my homebirth experience with Kate and will use her again for my future pregnancies. She is such a wonderful midwife!
