Our Practice

Twin Cities Midwifery serves families of all races, ethnicities, religions, sexual orientations, and gender identities. Our personalized care is built upon safety, evaluation, education, and shared decision-making so that each family receives the support and guidance they deserve during their incredible journey.
Kate Saumweber Hogan, CPM, LM

Kate believes in the natural process of pregnancy and birth, the intuitive wisdom in each person’s body, and that every growing family deserves the support of midwifery care. She believes parents are the best decision-makers for their families and that her role is to provide options and help clients learn about their choices. She is honored to witness couples grow into families, children become siblings, and the power of birth.

Elizabeth Heaps, CPM, LM

Elizabeth is dedicated to providing care that is individual to each person and family, creating an empowering environment to welcome their new little one. She cares deeply about providing families with high quality care that is centered on evidence based informed choice.

Lauren, Office Manager

Lauren supports Twin Cities Midwifery families through appointment scheduling, insurance billing processing, and keeping TCM running smoothly behind the scenes. Lauren has a background in accounting and worked as an external and internal auditor before joining the practice in November 2014. She and her husband live in the Twin Cities and have two little boys who keep them laughing and moving.

What To Expect

Twin Cities Midwifery is unique. When you begin care with one of our midwives, you choose the care provider you will see for your full course of care – from prenatal to postpartum. In many other practices, you see different midwives and birth with whoever happens to be on call. We so strongly value continuity of care that the midwife you choose for your care will be on this journey with you, every step of the way. We also value self-care for our midwives and sustainability for our practice. We always have a back-up midwife in place so if for any unforeseen reason your midwife is unavailable, you will still be in excellent hands.

Every homebirth team includes at least two members: a Certified Professional Midwife/Licensed Midwife (CPM/LM) and a birth assistant (which could be another CPM/LM, trained birth assistant, or advanced midwifery student). Both are trained and certified in neonatal resuscitation. Team members are determined based on client preference, due time, and location. The birth assistant joins the family at their 36-week home visit so they can meet and confirm that they feel like a good fit for the team.
