Kate believes in the natural process of pregnancy and birth, the intuitive wisdom in each person’s body, and that every growing family deserves the support of midwifery care. She believes parents are the best decision-makers for their families and that her role is to provide options and help clients learn about their choices. She is honored to witness couples grow into families, children become siblings, and the power of birth.
Elizabeth is dedicated to providing care that is individual to each person and family, creating an empowering environment to welcome their new little one. She cares deeply about providing families with high quality care that is centered on evidence based informed choice.
Lauren supports Twin Cities Midwifery families through appointment scheduling, insurance billing processing, and keeping TCM running smoothly behind the scenes. Lauren has a background in accounting and worked as an external and internal auditor before joining the practice in November 2014. She and her husband live in the Twin Cities and have two little boys who keep them laughing and moving.
Twin Cities Midwifery is unique. When you begin care with one of our midwives, you choose the care provider you will see for your full course of care – from prenatal to postpartum. In many other practices, you see different midwives and birth with whoever happens to be on call. We so strongly value continuity of care that the midwife you choose for your care will be on this journey with you, every step of the way. We also value self-care for our midwives and sustainability for our practice. We always have a back-up midwife in place so if for any unforeseen reason your midwife is unavailable, you will still be in excellent hands.
Every homebirth team includes at least two members: a Certified Professional Midwife/Licensed Midwife (CPM/LM) and a birth assistant (which could be another CPM/LM, trained birth assistant, or advanced midwifery student). Both are trained and certified in neonatal resuscitation. Team members are determined based on client preference, due time, and location. The birth assistant joins the family at their 36-week home visit so they can meet and confirm that they feel like a good fit for the team.
I have never experienced care that was so informative. Every test/procedure/option is presented in a clear and informative way. Pros and cons are discussed and I have never had anything done that I didn't fully understand. Kate makes pregnancy so client centered that it leaves me questioning why every aspect of health and wellness isn't like a pregnancy or birth with Kate.
Having both a hospital/OBGYN birth and home birth with Kate, I can without hesitation say that my experience with Kate was the best. She is not only warm and caring, but professional and knowledgeable. I felt the care I received was so much more personal and thorough than the standard medical care, from prenatal to birth to postnatal. Kate has delivered two of my babies, and I know if I ever have another she will deliver that one as well.
You completely exceeded our expectations and made us feel so comfortable with our choices. The level of support you provide pre, post, and during the birth are above and beyond and for that we are very thankful. Thanks for being a part of our final birth journey!
Kate is such a caring and competent provider. She places a high value on providing her clients with the best possible information so that they can make their own informed decisions about the care they receive. My wife and I were so blessed to have had Kate deliver our firstborn son at home. It was an amazing experience that we will cherish always.
It was a transformative process working with Kate. We became empowered to believe the birthing process could be a positive one and different from our first birth, which was not a positive experience. Working with Kate healed a lot of our past wounds from a traumatic delivery.
My husband was a little uneasy about the idea of home births at first. That is until our first visit with Kate. She used facts and statistics, as well as her own personal experience, to expel any myths we held concerning this topic. She made us both feel completely comfortable about having a home birth and that our decision to have a home birth was not only smart but also very healthy for both mom and baby.
My labor felt like it was going on forever. I was getting discouraged and didn't feel I could continue. But the midwife team was right there to encourage me, tell me I was strong and that I could do it...The midwives help me with my breathing, continuously encouraging me to keep my face relaxed and my breathing steady. I was able to have my beautiful daughter in the pool the ladies kept warm for me. And I didn't have any tearing. It was a great experience!
Kate has a real gift of being with women through pregnancy and childbirth - I am so grateful I had her by my side. I will never forget looking at her during the most intense part of labor (and my life!) and receiving peace and strength.
Kate and her team were so professional and thorough. Yet at the same time they cultivated personal relationships with everyone involved, including the kids and I. It made the whole birth process quite an amazing experience! Almost makes us want to have more kids just for another great experience with Kate and her team.
After having a very prolonged labor at home, we ended up having a hospital transfer, and after another 24 hours ended up having the baby with the help of forceps. While the delivery was not what we had hoped for, the thing that was excellent was that Kate and her assistant were there with us every step of the way and never left us during the entire time (two-and-a-half days!)...Having an educated team with us made all the difference...Kate knew when to recommend a hospital...and knew the OB/GYN at that certain hospital that would help us with the most natural delivery possible. Without her knowledge and experience...I don't know that the birth would have turned out the way it did.
Kate and her team surrounded our family and were able to support us throughout and after the birth. I feel that TCM occupies that area between the more traditional midwife practice and a professional medical practice. I always felt as if our family was getting medical-grade treatment and attention but without the red tape and stress of being in the medical system. I try to convey to others when recommending TCM: "It's the best care you'll ever get."
Kate did a fabulous job balancing informed consent with freedom to make our own decisions. For the first time in my interaction with any healthcare system, I felt like I was asked and informed about every aspect of my care. When I needed to make decisions, Kate offered so much information that helped me choose what was best for myself and my family. Kate also was so present-- at prenatal appointments, the birth, and postpartum visits.
[It was] wonderful to be able to bring the siblings to each check-up and have them involved in the process as well. Kate let my little ones help with checking the heartbeat, measuring my belly and just keeping them involved so they felt like they were part of the whole process too, not getting lost in the excitement of a new baby.
I liked how thorough my midwifery care was, and how Kate listened to my incessant babbling at every appointment!! We had options and all of the info we needed to make a great choice. I could get ahold of Kate whenever I needed her (so great!). I am so grateful for the encouragement we got, especially in light of the push-back we got from our families about having a home birth. We always felt confident and comfortable with Kate’s training and experience.
