Groups for Dads and Partners

I know many parents, doulas, educators, and friends who have enjoyed TCM’s blog post: Moms Groups Around Town. But lately people have been asking about groups for dads and partners.

Many of the groups in the Moms Groups and LGBTQIAS2+ Groups lists are also open to partners, but here are some groups that are tailored just for partners and dads. Please let me know if you are aware of others!

ECFE (Early Childhood Family Education) also offers classes just for dads and partners. Check with your local school district to learn more. Here is more information on the Minneapolis and St Paul classes. Minneapolis has classes for specific populations including Daytime Dads. Other districts may also have similar classes.

Minnesota Dads at Home has various playgroups, dads nights out, online discussions, and other activities geared toward stay-at-home dads.

Babywearing Twin Cities is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to build the bond between babies and caregivers through baby carrier education and support; to provide a community education service and distribute baby carriers to individuals and other organizations for their use; and to celebrate babywearing among caregivers through online and in-person gatherings. Meetings are free and held throughout the cities.

The Queer Birth Project offers an expecting and new parent group on the 2nd Saturdays of each month at the Walker Community Church (3104 16th Ave S, Minneapolis, MN 55407) from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. This is a donation-based community event for LGBTQIA families with little ones ages 0-3, as well as expectant and trying families looking to build community! Each month there will be a local speaker or topic for discussion, but the purpose of the event is to socialize, build community, and find support from other queer and trans families.

Life Hacks for Dads Workshops are an opportunity to connect with dads in the Twin Cities area. This time together will be used to explore what makes an amazing dad and what type of dad you are now.

Fatherhood: Supporting the Journey is a support group offered throughout the year at Mindful Families for expecting fathers to more experienced fathers with children up to the age of 10. We will be exploring identity and expectations as a father, addressing work-social life-home life balance, finding ways to connect with your partner and children, building confidence about parenting skills, and other topics of interest presented by group members.

Rad Dad Support Group is an 8 week group led by Moody Octopus Collective.  This group is for dads who are curious about being a healthier parent and will explore a variety of parenting skills for some of the more frustrating behaviors and a way to connect with other men and support one another through fatherhood.

Launchpad Dads is a blog for dads by local therapist Ryan Plasch, MS

Brett Sharockman with Nystrom & Associates runs a 6-week teaching and supporting new dads/partners for everything from family financial security to how to support your partner in the delivery room!  Rolling enrollment and will be offered virtually.  For any interested parties, they must have a first meeting prior to start of group and can schedule here.
